Coming Up Next

You knew there had to be a next project, right? Ta-da! Presenting the “Icelandic Lace Shawl” from Piecework Magazine, I think the Jul/Aug ’96 issue. Only, I’m doing it in spring colors instead of the natural wool colors it calls for.

I was even almost well-enough behaved to wait until I was done with the flower sweaters…I only cast on and did the first couple of rows before finishing up the embroidery and buttons on the sweaters… You can see the first bits of it on the needles – I’ve actually managed to add quite a bit to that since I took the picture. It’s going a lot faster than I’d expected, considering I had to cast on 339 stitches (I’m not even going to tell you how many times I had to count them – wait, was that stitch 267 or 276…?)

Flowers, Anyone?

These are the little sweaters that I’ve been trying to avoid mentioning – they’re not being given to my nieces until next Saturday (a few weeks early for their 2nd birthdays) – but I had to post pictures. I can’t believe I finally finished them! Size 2 needles. Yarn that splits. Seed stitch. No wonder it took me five months to make them. (Of course, I put them down for at least two of those months and did other projects, so those shouldn’t count!)

For all my complaining, I’m very pleased with the way they turned out. There was some debate about the buttons being all different colors or all the same. I think they looked best all different colors, even though they aren’t all quite the same sizes.

There are more pictures in my crafts pages…

Almost Done!

The gift knitting I’ve been grousing about for weeks now is so close to being done, I can’t stand it. Just buttons left, which I purchased on my way to Sit & Knit tonight. And then I’m going to spill the beans, since I know for sure that the recipients don’t read my blog, and the recipients’ parents can just not read that entry if they manage to stumble on this page before next Saturday. :)

I know you’re all waiting with bated breath, but you’ll just have to wait until the buttons are sewn on before I take pictures…

Too. Damn. Cold.

Is there any particular reason that it has to be snowing? It’s late April, for heaven’s sake! It’s almost enough to make me want to move. Except then I’d have to pack up all my stuff. I think it would take two moving trucks: one for my craft room, and one for the rest of the house.

On second thought, maybe I’ll just go knit another sweater. :)

Dog Naps

This morning was gray and rainy, and when I woke up I had a terrible sinus headache…long story short, I fell back asleep on the couch instead of getting ready for work. When I woke up, Molly was curled up on my feet and Murphy was stretched out on my legs. All I wanted was to stay right there, napping with my puppies. I would have too, if a C.A.T. hadn’t strolled by our window and incited the dogs to riot. :)

Happy Easter!

Hope the Easter Bunny was good to you! I played 7:30 mass this morning (which, if you ask me, is inhumane) and spent the day with family. Now I’m sitting here stuffed full of Grandma’s yummy dinner, watching Iron Chef on the Tivo, and I can barely keep my eyes open…

…And Speaking of Dogs

Molly’s third birthday was today! (She’s the one on the left). Unfortunately, I couldn’t take a picture today. Well, I could have taken the picture, just not transferred it to my computer. Someone, we won’t name names *cough – Murphy – cough* ate the little leather case that I kept my spare memory cards and card reader in. In the process, he destroyed a 16 MB memory card…and the card reader.

In honor of her birthday, Molly did exactly what she does every day: eat, sleep, and chew on Murphy. :)

Crafting Frenzy

Just in case you thought I’d forgotten my craft projects, I haven’t…it’s just that at the moment I’m making gifts for people, and I can’t really post any details. Soon. Very soon. :)

The gift knitting that I was having such a hard time working on actually sped up a bit after I blogged about it a couple of weeks ago, so it’s almost done. I also started a cross-stitch gift kind of late – it may not be done in time for the event, and most certainly won’t be framed, but I guess it’s the thought that counts, right?

The very nice owner of the needlework shop I go to was teasing me about never making stuff for myself, since every time I go in there I’m looking for things to make as gifts. I suppose that’s true, but if all of my crafting efforts were spent on things for me, I’d need a bigger house. :)

Music Software

Has anyone out there ever used music notation software on the Mac, specifically, OS X? I’m looking at Sibelius, which is very expensive. Demos are dangerous, I tell you. I fell in love with the program before I realized how much it costs…

But as far as I can tell, it’s about the only application that does what I need it to do under OS X. That is: I play my digital piano, it appears as written music on the screen. Simple, right? The shareware apps I’ve tried just don’t work – generally, I can enter a few notes, and then it stops recording. Most other commercial packages cost around the same, and only run under Classic.

I’m open to suggestions, if there’s some middle ground I missed in my search…
