I had a knitting crisis last night. I finished the straps for Suki…and then I had nothing on needles. (Well, I’m not counting the extremely heavy throw or the blanket poncho, both of which are too hot to work during the summer.) I mean, don’t get me wrong – I have several unfinished projects going on right now, but I’ve been good about finishing a piece of a project before picking up something else to work on. Hence, no knitting sitting patiently on needles, waiting for me to notice it and take pity.
After much waffling, I decided to go back to the Christmas sweaters…but it was a tough decision!
I can’t wait to felt the tote. And I suppose the knitting isn’t really done, since I’m going to make pockets out of the little bits of leftover yarn. And I do mean little bits! I had just enough blue to make one strap, so I made the second out of the purple. I think I can get one smallish pocket out of what’s left of the purple, and a larger one out of white.
yea!!! now we are both at the felting!!! i’m a little scared to do it!
Don’t be scared! What’s the worst that could happen? There are a couple of things that can go wrong, based on my extensive – 2 items – felting experience. ;)
Problem 1: You pull it out of a full cycle and it’s felted but not small enough. Solution: Beat it up. Throw it in the dryer. Wash it again. Keep a close eye out, though, or you may run into…
Problem 2: You pull it out of the washer (or the dryer – see problem 1) and…it’s too small! Solution: Give it to your favorite little girl as a purse, or carry it around yourself as one.
Problem 3: The towel(s) you put in for extra agitation created little [insert color here] fuzzies all over your bag. Solution: Buy a sweater shaver. Or, do what I did, and just randomly pick off the wrong color fuzzies every time you use the item in question. Eventually, it will all work out.
Felt is magic! Good luck! :)
I checked out the new yarn store. It’s very tiny and tragically it’s behind a nail salon, which means it smells strongly of nail polish/acetone, which made me feel ill. However, it looked like they had some pretty yarns. I couldn’t look very long at all because the smell made Roen completely freak out. Also, they’re not set up to take credit cards yet, so be prepared with cash/check. I couldn’t get anything because I only had plastic but that didn’t really matter as Roen wouldn’t let me look anyway.
