I’ve just been totally wiped out this week. Turns out that there is actually an underlying cause – I had some routine bloodwork done on Thursday, and I’m apparently anemic. I guess this isn’t an uncommon pregnancy issue, which is why they test for it around now. It does explain a lot…
But the extra iron supplements my doctor suggested really haven’t helped much. (Granted, I’ve only taken them for a couple of days so far, maybe it’s cumulative?) I took a two-hour “nap” this afternoon (can you call it a nap when it’s that long?) and I still feel like I could go back to sleep for another two – or more – hours.
This is not helping me get anything at all done. Even ignoring the dog fur tumbleweeds and layers of dust, I have no energy to cook, or knit, or blog. Just the thought of trying to get the nursery in order is too much energy. I hope this gets better soon, or baby is going to come home to a room with ugly striped wallpaper, a weight bench, and random furniture and other stuff that’s accumulated in there over the last five years.
Two-hour naps? That’s standard around here. Some people can grab 20 minutes and suddenly have renewed energy. Twenty minutes for me and I’m ten times as groggy and tired. I nap for anywhere from an hour to two. My mother and sister have low iron in general; I’ve never had any problems but pregnancy might change that for a bit. I’m alright so far as far as I know.
How far along are your now? During both of my pregnancies my main complaint was fatigue and it didn’t improve until after I had the baby. It’s very taxing on your body and so it demands more rest. In fact around my fifth or sixth month with my youngest I had to stop knitting because it would put me to sleep sitting up!
The babe won’t notice the weight bench, etc. But, I recall a nurse telling me that it does take a while for the blood iron level to adjust. So just keep on keepin’ on – taking pills, eating when you are hungry, sleeping when you are tired (and can sleep!) and such – and you shouldn’t be carrying a weight bench around anyway! Sending you virtual energy…
PS – we just finished the nursery last weekend – 4 months into the adventure! We didn’t really know what we would use a lot/a little until we were doing it.
