Carrie is rapidly becoming more and more mobile, and summer is coming and with it opportunities to stand outside. On the ground. Where there’s dirt. So, I thought I’d look into getting her some shoes. (Not that I have anything against dirt, but her choices are barefoot or shoes. No socks in the dirt, please.) These are my current favorites (although there are so many designs I like it was really hard to pick one!)
The only thing is, I can’t figure out which size to get. I tried some on her the other day. The 0-6 month size should fit lengthwise, but her chubby little feet won’t go in them. The 6-12 month size fit over her feet, but extend a good inch or so past her toes – they’re like baby clown shoes. I have no idea how fast baby feet grow – if I get these now, will she even be able to wear them in a couple of months, or will they still be huge? I suppose it doesn’t matter if they’re big, since she’ll grow into them eventually, but I don’t know what to put on her until then. Or maybe I won’t really need them until she grows into them anyway.
And I thought buying shoes for myself was hard!
Just an aside…we met at playgroup at my house…Cdga MOMS… So you don’t think I’m just some random person lurking around your blog… :)
We didn’t use any shoes for Madeline last summer. Granted, she wasn’t crawling then, but she was happy to just hang around on a blanket. :) This year so far, although she is VERY mobile, she will not move when sitting in the grass. Just too weird feeling, I guess. Most of the Moms I’ve talked to about shoes didn’t bother buying any until the child can walk pretty well. I used slippers in the winter just for warmth. But, on the other hand, the Robees have been very popular! I don’t suppose this answers your size question-don’t think I’ll be much help there. Sorry!
Hi!
I second the Robees comment. All my friends who already have kids swear by them. Since they are soft leather they are easy to fit on chubby baby feet, (nothing cuter than chubby baby feet!) and they don’t constrict the feet and keep them from developping properly! (plus they come in super cute patterns and are machine washable…)
Hope that helps!
Jessica
I think going with the larger shoes should be ok, babie’s feet grow real quickly – even if you don’t see it. They grow in spurts too, so it might stay the same for a while, next day you need 2 sizes larger LOL. You could do thick socks at first in the larger ones.
Have you looked at PediPeds? They are soft leather but more like real shoes and they are MUCH easier to get on than Robeez They also come in a wider width. look at http://www.pedipeds.com.
