Today was my cousin’s son’s first birthday party. They have a pool and it was incredibly hot out, so Carrie and I decided to take the plunge. She loved it! She was kicking and splashing and giggling. She tried to drink the water and coughed a little, but she was generally having a fantastic time. All my worries about dropping her were pretty silly. Between her swimsuit which gave me something to grip and the buoyancy of the water she really wasn’t going anywhere.
Several of my family members were teasing me about Carrie’s “safari hat”, but she still doesn’t have a very thick head of hair and I’m not going to try to smear sunblock on her scalp so I think it’s important. Besides, she’s as fair-skinned as I am, and I burn if I stand too close to a window.
The only thing is, I’m not sure how Carrie’s swimsuit is supposed to work. It’s got a built-in swim diaper, but we’re not sure if we can/should put disposable swim diapers on in addition (especially in other people’s pools) or if the built-in diaper is sufficient. It’s not meant to soak up liquid, but then again I’m not sure the disposable ones do either. Plus, I think I’m going to have to buy her a second suit because this one takes forever to dry. (Oh, and I’m feeling very vulnerable about posting a picture of myself in my swimsuit, so please be nice…)
I like her safari hat! it’s so cute! and I love the pink on your swimmers. It’s getting colder where I live so it’s so weird to think of people swimming, but it sounds like you had a really good time.
It makes me think of my scrapbook whenever I hear of baby ‘firsts’!
you both look great!!!
Oh, silly mama – both you girls look fabulous! I’m glad you decided to take Carri for a plunge in the big pool – she looks like she enjoyed it! We got a mesh carrier thingie for our shower and E can’t wait to use it with the baby.
It’s very smart to have the safari hat on C! I had to do the same to Spritle b/c he was/is, as I am, fair skinned–surprising since we do live in Hawai’i!
I think the picture is GREAT*:) It’s a treat that you posted it up!
I love her outfit, what the best dressed baby is wearing these days! Don’t worry about the bed issue. My youngest has fallen off the back of a Barbie four wheeler onto hard concrete and survivied. She was 3 years old at the time. She has actually got bumps on her head from banging her own noggin on the coffee table. Don’t let he nurse make you question yourself. By the 2nd one you are so much more lax, at least I was. You realize they survive most anything.
i’m a visitor from ljc’s blog. just a tip about the diaper – you want which ever combination will contain poop better. that’s way more important than the pee because getting poop in the pool will make it dangerous for others to swim in.
