Happy Halloween Wedding!

Happy Halloween!

My brother got married today!  Welcome to the family, Genevra!wedding09
Carrie was their flower girl, and Anna was…as well-behaved as you’d expect a 15 month old to be at a wedding.  Which is to say, not very.  But the ceremony (at least, what I got to hear) was lovely, and the dinner was fabulous.20091031_wedding
We dashed home and got in our Halloween costumes.  Nana, Poppy and I took the girls trick-or-treating while Denis stayed home to hand out candy.20091031_costumes
And finally, we left the girls in Nana & Poppy’s capable hands while we went to the after party for the wedding – in costume.halloween09

Halloween Party & Rehearsal Dinner

Carrie’s class had a halloween party today, and they were supposed to wear their costumes.  Instead of dealing with her long flowing ghost costume, Carrie decided to be a cat.  Black ears, a pin-on tail, some eyeliner whiskers, and my cute kitty-cat headed off to school.

I picked her up so we could make it to the rehearsal for my brother’s wedding.  So she got to wear her cat costume while practicing dropping rose petals for tomorrow.

It’s been a busy day, and tomorrow is going to be even busier.  It just seems like the busier I am the faster the days go by…

5 Years Old, aka Happy Birthday, Carolyn!

Dear Carolyn,

Today you are five.  Five seems so old, doesn’t it?  Last year I was worried about you turning four, because it seemed like I was losing my baby.  But this year I was excited for you to turn five.  You’ve been excited too!

Since your birthday party is tomorrow, we spent the day doing other things.  We started out with chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast – your favorite.  After that, you had a friend’s birthday party to go to.  Then you and I ran some errands to get ready for your party tomorrow and for Uncle Dan and Aunt Genevra’s wedding next weekend.  After our errands, we hung out at home for a bit and opened your presents, and then you picked the local Mexican restaurant for dinner.  They brought you your own fried ice cream for dessert!

We had an exhausting but good day, and we’re just about ready for the invasion party tomorrow.  I still can’t believe my little girl is five!  There are so many things you can do all by yourself now, and so many things you know.  But you’re still my sweet baby, and always will be!

School Visit

Today I had a lunch date with Carrie at the school cafeteria.  She was thrilled to have me there, and I hope I can join her another time.  The other kids were funny, too – once I helped one of them open something, the rest of them suddenly had something that needed opening!

Then I read Some Dogs Do to the class.  I don’t know why I get nervous reading to a group of small children, but I do.  But I made it through and I think they liked the story.

I also went to the library to get an idea of what I could volunteer for.  If I can get some childcare for Anna a couple of times a month I think I’ll go help out.

Star of the Week

Carrie’s teacher has a tradition where every child is the “Star of the Week” for a week (usually near their birthday) during the school year.  This week is Carrie’s week, so we got to make up a poster of pictures for her to share.

Tomorrow I’m going to meet her for lunch and then read a story to the class, and Friday she’ll bring in cupcakes for her birthday celebration.  Since this is new to us, I hope we’re not over- or under-doing this star of the week thing!

Bridal Shower

My brother is getting married at the end of this month, and we had a shower for his lovely bride today.  I ended up getting her some cookie making things, and Anna was hilarious – she saw the paper label on the cookie sheets with pictures of cookies on it and was frantically signing “cookie” and trying to get to the “cookies” under the plastic…and then I was accused of torturing my baby because I wasn’t giving her any cookies.  Note that there were none out and we were not at our own house…not sure where I was supposed to get the cookies from to give her??

But I even won one of the shower games – a bridal jumble puzzle with 20+ words.  Some of the words were really hard!

15 month well-baby visit

Vital stats:
15 months, 3 days old
22 lbs. 8.5 oz.
30.2″ tall

Anna is still pretty much in the 50th percentile on the charts in all respects.  My average little baby!

Poor girl got 3 shots today, and was not happy about them.  The nurse commented that it’s a good thing she does this all the time, because Anna is strong and nearly succeeded in pulling her leg away.
