What’s in a Name?

We’re having a naming crisis… Bailey is a cute name – it’s not that we don’t like it. It just hasn’t seemed to “stick” yet. We can’t remember to call him that, and it’s not as though he responds to it, anyway. Plus, it sounds very close to “Molly”, which might be adding some confusion. So, we’re thinking of changing his name.

Now the question is, does this dog look more like a “Bailey”, or a “Murphy”?

Bailey Reilly?
Murphy O. Reilly?

We need to make a decision soon – or he’ll never respond to anything except “puppy”, “buddy” or “dog”.

Help!

When I was growing up we got a black lab mix from Lollypop Farm! Her name was Brandi. I think he looks like a Bailey. Murphy ain’t bad either though.

Murphy. Definately. Bailey is okay, but he looks so much more like a Murphy. Let’s try it out: “Murph! Stop chewing on that boot!”
    Yeah, Murphy. :^)

Murphy. You could call him Murph for short, which sounds much better than Bail!

Skip them both, and just call him Irish. There are already so many Baileys and Murphys out there: See item 4 for proof.

    Murphy, without question.
For one, it’s just a cool name for a boy dog. Secondly, it’s the name of the main character in something I wrote, so it’s doubly cool. :-)

No doubt Murphy O’Reilly is your best choice. It seems to suit him and Bailey always reminds me of that whiney boy from that show Party of 5.

I have to vote with the crowd–when I first saw that face on ljc’s blog and the choice of names, I thought: “That’s a Murphy.” :)

    Murphy.
The fact that you could call the dog Murph sometimes ups the cute-factor by at least 35%.
