Even big, grown-up kindergartners still get to wear PJs to school!

There was still snow on the ground, but it was so warm yesterday afternoon that the girls wanted to play with chalk.
It might not have been short-sleeves warm, but Carrie insisted…
It’s a bit warmer in the mornings now when we go out to wait for the bus, so I’ve been putting Anna in her coat and boots so she can come out with us to wait. And then we go right back out in the afternoon to catch the bus home, and play a bit after that. The girls love playing in the snow! I think maybe next winter I should find myself some snowpants, though…
Carrie and I built our first snowman of the season today after school.
Carrot nose, almond eyes and mouth – the local critters are going to have a feast tonight!
And another first: Carrie’s first snow day off from school. Between a superintendent’s day, the trip, February break, the past three days when she’s been out sick, and today’s snow day, she’s attended school for 6 days in February. (To be fair, there have only been 13 days when school was actually in session, but still…)
And although I appreciate not having to listen to a long list of school closings on the radio, why does the automated call notifying the parents of a snow day happen at 5:56 AM? The bus doesn’t come until 8:30, surely they could have waited until 7 or so before ringing the phone?
Carrie is out sick from school today, her first actual sick day this year. Definitely tomorrow too. Poor kid.
I took Carrie ice skating today for the first time, so she could wear the pink ice skates Santa was kind enough to bring her. I pretty much remembered how to skate forwards without falling, but I had a really hard time helping Carrie figure it out. She did make it around the rink three whole times, and only fell a couple of times.
We’re both signed up for lessons starting in a couple of weeks. I have to be crazy, but I never managed to teach myself how to skate backwards, and as long as I’m going to be going to the rink every Saturday morning for six weeks anyway, I may as well get out on the ice instead of sitting on the cold bleachers!
Dear Carolyn,
Today you are 5-and-a-quarter years old. Today you also met your twin baby cousins for the first time. You were so excited to meet them! You kept whispering to the girls how cute they were and how soon they would be big girls like you and you’d play with them and teach them how to do everything. You were especially thrilled when you were allowed to hold each baby – although Abby was much happier with that arrangement than Emma was!
Baby, five years ago, this was you:
And now look at my big girl!
I can hardly believe that 5 years (and a few weeks) have gone by since you were the baby in that little flowered sleeper! And now you’re promising to take your little baby cousins under your wing and teach them all you’ve learned in your big five years. It takes my breath away.
Love,
Mommy
So, if the sled is for ages 6+, and there’s a 5 year old and a 1.5 year old sitting on it, that’s OK, right? (Don’t bother reporting me, there was maybe an inch of snow and no hill – not much danger there.)
Oh! And this was taken with my second attempt at a new camera. Much better.
The indoor soccer session was very strange with all the holidays – we had a two week break and the last class was tonight. Carrie really loves soccer. I think I may try to find a summer soccer league for her this year!
