We had a lovely day filled with family, fun and food! Anna really enjoyed shaking the plastic eggs and asking people to “open it!” and the jokes I filled the eggs with were a huge hit with Carrie and her cousins.
Holidays
St. Patty’s Day Party
Shockingly enough, this was our ninth annual St. Patty’s Day party. Next year we’re going to have to do something super special I think!
Anna insisted on wearing the blue dance skirt all day, and Carrie had a blast hanging out with all of her friends.
I forgot to buy a silly hat this year, so no silly hat pictures. :(
New Year’s Eve
We spent the evening at Lisa’s annual countdown to 6:00 party, and now Carrie is working really hard to stay awake until midnight to see the ball drop for the first time. We’ll see whether that was a good idea or not tomorrow morning…
Gingerbread Village
Carrie, Uncle Michael and I decorated a whole gingerbread village yesterday. It’s a *lot* more work putting together and decorating five tiny houses than one big one!
Good thing Carrie has teeny-tiny fingers, because Michael and I couldn’t manage the teeny-tiny candies they included in the kit – they were practically sprinkles. I think “candy” is a very misleading name for those little bitty things. Tweezers might have helped!
Merry Christmas!
The morning didn’t quite go the way we wanted – I think this is the first Christmas in my whole entire life that I didn’t get to mass – but we had a mostly good day. The girls found out today that…
…we’re going to Disney World!
Christmas Eve
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring…except for Mommy clicking the mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds, not actually sleeping, but calling for “Mommmmmmy” instead…
Yeah. Don’t they get that Santa won’t come until everyone is sleeping???
Coooookies!
Last night I piped some simple decorations on pre-baked (yes, I cheated) gingerbread men for the bus drivers:
And today Carrie and I baked a million (OK, only 16 dozen or so) G.G. cookies. She even stayed up really late to help us decorate them all tonight. This is the first time in years that I’m not going to up past midnight on the night before Christmas Eve finishing them by myself!
“Gingerbread” Houses
All the K/1 classes met in the school cafeteria tonight to construct these gingerbread houses out of empty milk cartons, graham crackers, frosting and candies. A cute, fun project!
School Holiday Party
I signed up to bring a treat for the class holiday party, but the treat I decided on became an activity as well – decorating gingerbread men! So I dropped Anna off at Nikki’s house and headed to the school for the holiday party. What fun!
Did you know that the echo line in Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer after “Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say…” is no longer “Ho, Ho, Ho”, but “In his underwear!”? I didn’t. All the parents who had come along to help in the class cracked up when the kids all shouted that line. Who knew?
After the party, Carrie and I dashed to pick up Anna, and then went home to pack up the car. We’re in NYC now!
Breakfast with Santa
We went to church this morning, and then to the pancake breakfast with Santa after.
This Santa was slightly less intimidating to Anna, although that might have been because this time I sat down with her.
Carrie was so excited to get to see Santa again that she sat on his lap twice – once before and once after breakfast. You know, just to make sure he got her order wish list straight and all.
