Santa Visit

I took the girls to see Santa today.  Luckily, Denis met us at the mall after work and we all went together.  Yep, that was pretty lucky.  Because while Carrie was more than happy to climb right up on that red velvet-covered knee:

Anna wanted absolutely nothing to do with Mr. Claus.

That’s right.  Not even with Daddy sporting his festive Mets hat sitting with them.

Nope.  No Santa for Anna this year.

Luckily, Carrie was happy to pass along that Anna really wants a doll for Christmas this year.  And I don’t think Santa takes it personally when babies scream at the sight of him.  At least, I hope not!

Oh, Christmas Tree

I rearranged the living room a smidge so we could put the tree up this evening.  I do love going through the ornaments we’ve collected throughout the years, and Carrie loves to hang things on the highest branches she can reach while Daddy holds her up.

I remember our first tree – senior year of college, we rented half a duplex with another friend, and we put up a tree even though we’d be away over Christmas.  We really had no ornaments to speak of, so I bought all red and gold ornaments and tried to do one of those decorator-type trees.  It came out…well, honestly, pretty ugly.

I like this tree, in all of it’s homemade, mismatched, colorful, paper-towel-angel-on-the-top glory much better!20091130_tree

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our family has a little extra to be thankful for today.  My cousin (the one who had the baby shower a couple of weeks ago) had her baby this morning.  A little early, but healthy.  We’re so happy to welcome Charles (already nick-named “baby Charlie” by Carolyn) to the family!

Happy Halloween Wedding!

Happy Halloween!

My brother got married today!  Welcome to the family, Genevra!wedding09
Carrie was their flower girl, and Anna was…as well-behaved as you’d expect a 15 month old to be at a wedding.  Which is to say, not very.  But the ceremony (at least, what I got to hear) was lovely, and the dinner was fabulous.20091031_wedding
We dashed home and got in our Halloween costumes.  Nana, Poppy and I took the girls trick-or-treating while Denis stayed home to hand out candy.20091031_costumes
And finally, we left the girls in Nana & Poppy’s capable hands while we went to the after party for the wedding – in costume.halloween09

Halloween Party & Rehearsal Dinner

Carrie’s class had a halloween party today, and they were supposed to wear their costumes.  Instead of dealing with her long flowing ghost costume, Carrie decided to be a cat.  Black ears, a pin-on tail, some eyeliner whiskers, and my cute kitty-cat headed off to school.

I picked her up so we could make it to the rehearsal for my brother’s wedding.  So she got to wear her cat costume while practicing dropping rose petals for tomorrow.

It’s been a busy day, and tomorrow is going to be even busier.  It just seems like the busier I am the faster the days go by…

Farmer’s Market Trick-or-Treat

Except for the bit right after school started and we got a little thrown for a loop with getting used to getting off the bus and needing a snack and some downtime, we’d been going to the farmer’s market almost every Wednesday.  This week was the last week, and all the vendors had treats to hand out to the kids who came in costume.  So I dressed the girls up and they went and visited everyone and got their candy, apples and mini pumpkins.20091014_costumes
Don’t they look adorable?

Happy Fourth of July!

We didn’t get to watch any fireworks – we were spoiled for so many years by a display we could see from our house, but it didn’t happen last year either, so I guess it’s gone for good.  And we spent most of the day patriotically decluttering the house, but we did grill and spend some good family time together today.  Hope everyone had a great fourth!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Sort of anti-climactic after having the party a couple of days ago, but we managed to scrape together a little more green to wear today – between Sunday’s party and the preschool theme yesterday, there wasn’t much left! Carrie had her last swimming lesson of the session and we got her hair cut again after.

I feel like I should pick out a green project to take with me to work on at the shop tonight. Everything I’m knitting lately is pink or purple…
