Thursdays Make Me Tired!

Thursdays are exhausting. So far today I’ve gotten two kids up and dressed, made breakfast, put one kid on the school bus, been grocery shopping, cleaned out the fridge, put everything away, made lunch and cleaned the kitchen. And in the next hour I have to fold two loads of laundry, vacuum the entire first floor, and load up the car for the evening activities. Then it’s off to pick up Carrie from school, bring her to get her hair cut, find a place to change her into her dancewear, occupy Anna for an hour during dance, and – after all that – go to work.

I think I may have found a good reason to select Monday/Wednesday preschool instead of Tuesday/Thursday for Anna this fall!

Beren-teen Bears

We went to a members-only event at the Strong Museum tonight, to meet the Berenstain Bears. I haven’t actually read the books to Carrie, but the new exhibit is really fabulous and perfect for preschoolers, and she enjoyed it quite a bit. (Actually the area with the quilt block designs was a place I could have spent more time in myself!) The icing on the cake was running into some of her friends from preschool, and the three girls spent ages playing together in the fort while the adults just tried to make sure they didn’t wander away in the crowds.

Pirates

I finally got to see Pirates of the Caribbean last night. We tried to go see it a few weeks ago, and ended up in a theater with a faulty projector that flickered…we notified management, but they didn’t fix it, so we walked out.

Anyway. Did I say yet that this was a fantastic movie? Well, it was. And if you haven’t seen it yet (I know, I probably was the last person on the planet who hadn’t seen it) go see it!

Just don’t go to the theater we went to. They had it in the oldest, furthest theater, which smelled like a dirty gym locker. And that’s saying something, since my sense of smell is somewhat diminished because of my allergies. I was afraid to put my purse on the floor, which was unbelievably dirty, and the seats were wobbly. After we had already exited the building, I realized I should have picked up a comment card. Oh, well.

Either I’m getting picky in my old age, or the theaters are really falling apart around here.

Puppy Havoc

I have a theory: each of my dogs has a certain number of hours during any given 24 hour period when they are perfect angels. It’s a different number for each. But if you trust them beyond those hours, bad things happen.

For example, we decided to let Murphy have the run of the house last night. No problem at all – as far as I can tell, he slept outside our bedroom door all night. This morning, however, having used up his angel-puppy hours overnight, he decided that the welcome mat would make a tasty snack while I was in the shower.

Good thing both our dogs are cute!

Splurging…

Tomorrow I’m going to meet with a landscape designer, who will hopefully be able to offer a magical solution to fencing in our yard – at least part of it, anyway. When we bought the house, we had no idea how complicated it would be…but working around a fenced-in in-ground pool, an oddly shaped, very sloped yard, and large trees has defeated us. Add to that the fact that we want it to look nice, in a neighborhood with very few fenced yards, and it seems truly impossible.

With two dogs, it’s quickly becoming necessary to have a place for them to run around, and, well, I might as well use the severance from being laid off for something that we really need…as much as I’d love to spend it all on yarn, I think I’d need a bigger craft room! :)

(And no, an invisible fence isn’t a viable option – mostly because we tend to have visiting dogs over, and it would be nice to toss them all out the door and let them run around and play. We also tried it. But that’s a whole other story, and it’s way past my bedtime!)

Have you ever…

Have you ever gotten to the end of a book and been disappointed because it’s over? I finally finished the entire Lord of the Rings series last night… Without giving anything away, it didn’t end the way I wanted it to. And one subplot that I was really interested in wasn’t quite wrapped up the way I’d hoped. But I suppose all of life is like that – things don’t always come out the way you want them to, but it usually works out that they come out the way they should. (And this blog is getting way too deep on just one cup of coffee…)
