Dance Recital, 2012

Carolyn’s 4th, Anna’s 1st. It was crazy and fun and wonderful!

Dancing Sisters

Carolyn danced to:
* In The Navy (tap)
* Poison Ivy (jazz)
* Make Your Own Kind of Music (ballet)

Carolyn's Tap Outfit
Beautiful Ballerina

Anna danced to:
* All You Need is Love (ballet)
* Peanut Butter Sandwich (tap)

All Smiles!
Sparkles and Polka Dots

Highlights of the show:

Watching Carolyn show a huge leap in skills from last year. Not just a new dance style (jazz), but new techniques in both ballet and tap.

Watching Anna’s first time up on stage. She did really, amazingly well at entertaining the audience. (Mostly by playing with feathers she’d found on the stage that fell off of someone’s costume instead of dancing, but it was very, very entertaining.)

Dance Observation

The girls had dance observation last night.  I’m really getting excited for the recital, the dances are so cute!

Stretching out!

I am very impressed with how much Carolyn has learned in this next level of dance.  Her class changes formations a lot more – no more standing in two lines and just doing different dance steps from there.  Anna is in the very littlest class, so their strongest asset is cuteness!

Shall We Dance?

This year, Carolyn is moving up a level to a 1.5 hour class that includes tap, ballet & jazz, and Anna is starting dance with an hour long ballet & tap (and learning how to listen) class.  So we moved “dance night” to Wednesdays so they could have classes at (mostly) the same time.

This means…I get to sit in the lobby with my knitting and my kindle for a whole entire hour *all by myself*.  (Oh, wait, that’s probably not what I’m supposed to be excited about here, is it?)

Also, how cute is this?!?

Dance Observation Day

We had our second dance observation of the year tonight. I’m really impressed with how much Carrie has learned over this year, and I think it’s amazing how her teacher has managed to take a dozen or so girls in the 4-7 year old range and teach them so much.

I’m so much happier with this studio than I was with our old one. The recital is 6 weeks away and we already have costumes, the dates and times for the pictures, rehearsal and recital, an instruction sheet about which costume pieces are to be worn for which numbers, details on when and where to be backstage for the rehearsal and recital, etc… Basically, all the information that none of us had last year until, well, never. I really can’t say enough good things about this dance studio and Carrie’s dance teacher!

Dance Photos

The studio Carrie takes dance at had their group photos done today.  The kids all had to wear their costumes and a bit of makeup.  (As an aside, I actually bought Carrie her own makeup, as I don’t really wear it and all of mine is quite old.  So in the same shopping trip (at Wegmans, where they carry everything) I bought my 4 year old both makeup and a Handy Manny toy on clearance.  Uhhh…)

There’s a pink hat that they’re also supposed to wear, but I haven’t gotten a decent picture of her in it.  For their non-tap number, they take off the hat, add a very poofy blue tutu/petticoat thing, and have child-sized brooms.  Not your traditional pale pink leotard with tutu, but very cute nonetheless.
